Musei Capitolini – New venue at Palazzo Caffarelli<\/b><\/p>\n

An exciting new exhibition opens this week at the Capitoline museums. The exhibition \u2018<\/span>The Torlonia Marbles – Collecting Masterpieces\u2019 boasts <\/b>ninety-six <\/span>outstanding examples of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture: <\/b>busts, statues (marble and bronze) to sarcophagi.\u00a0 The breath-taking artwork has been loving restored and is part of the Torlonia Family\u2019s private collection.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\u2018Collecting Masterpieces\u2019<\/b> traces the beginnings of the private collection of antiquities and the crucially important transition from private collections to public museums; a process where Rome and Italy have numerous examples.\u00a0 The <\/span>Torlonia marbles<\/b> constitute a \u2018collection of collections\u2019 with an astounding 620 catalogued works of art – the result of a long series of acquisitions from the 15th to the 19<\/span>th<\/span> centuries. Many of the pieces have <\/span>never seen before by the public<\/b>, kept hidden for over two hundred years, some were on display at the Torlonia Museum at the Lungara (founded by Prince Alessandro Torlonia in 1875).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The exhibition celebrates the reopening of the <\/span>new prestigious exhibition space<\/b> at <\/span>Palazzo Caffarelli<\/b> on the Campidoglio; brought to us by <\/span>Bvlgari<\/b> and the <\/span>Fondazione Torlonia<\/b> (an organization set up by Prince Alessandro Torlonia), with the hope of becoming a permanent exhibition.\u00a0 <\/span>Bvlgari<\/b> is known for its cultural initiatives in the city, funding the restoration of artistic and archaeological treasures in the city, including the Spanish steps in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n
