{"id":1291,"date":"2020-06-11T12:08:44","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T12:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/colosseum.info\/?page_id=1291"},"modified":"2020-10-23T12:12:11","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T12:12:11","slug":"domus-aurea","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/colosseum.info\/fr\/domus-aurea\/","title":{"rendered":"Domus Aurea"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid spcl-padding vc_custom_1602938283589\"><div class=\"about container wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner \"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner vc_custom_1593696277103\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"about\">\n<h4>Domus Aurea<\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element  vc_custom_1602242744619\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b><i>Domus Aurea<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or Golden House, was a huge pleasure palace <\/span><b>built by the emperor Nero after the great fire of 64AD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 Rumours at the time blamed Nero for starting the fire because he profited from the fire, confiscating public land in the centre of the city.\u00a0 Despite the rumours, Nero wasn\u2019t actually in Rome when the fire started and rushed back to help with the aftermath.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nero was a lover of the incredible and sought to impress with the grandeur of his new palace, he indulged his musical, sporting and artistic interests in the most outrageous, self-indulgent palace ever built.\u00a0 When he killed himself aged 30, he lamented \u201cOh what an artist dies in me!\u201d Nero was well loved in his own time; he was adored much like Elvis.\u00a0 His rebuilding of the city and the palace would have given work to thousands of people. the building was the first to use concrete to achieve a monumental building project with huge domed structures supported by brick-faced concrete walls.\u00a0 The finest artists decorated the walls with fresco.\u00a0 Descriptions of the time say <\/span><b>the palace was extravagantly decorated with gem-encrusted walls, mother-of-pearl and ivory d\u00e9cor on a golden backdrop<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 Flowers and perfume could be dropped from a revolving ceiling. At the time of Nero, it was the marble that impressed visitors &#8211; marble from all over the world\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expressed lavishness, expense and ultimate power. Against this backdrop was the biggest private art gallery in the world filled with artwork stolen from all over the empire.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><!-- Row Backgrounds --><div class=\"upb_color\" data-bg-override=\"0\" data-bg-color=\"#ededed\" data-fadeout=\"\" data-fadeout-percentage=\"30\" data-parallax-content=\"\" data-parallax-content-sense=\"30\" data-row-effect-mobile-disable=\"true\" data-img-parallax-mobile-disable=\"true\" data-rtl=\"false\"  data-custom-vc-row=\"\"  data-vc=\"5.5.2\"  data-is_old_vc=\"\"  data-theme-support=\"\"   data-overlay=\"false\" data-overlay-color=\"\" data-overlay-pattern=\"\" data-overlay-pattern-opacity=\"\" data-overlay-pattern-size=\"\"    ><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid spcl-padding vc_custom_1602938384589\"><div class=\"about container wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner \"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner vc_custom_1593696277103\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element  vc_custom_1603455036121\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 125 acres were taken up by three wings of the palace set in cornfields, vineyards, pastures and woodlands as if a part of the countryside had been brought into the city.\u00a0 He even re-routed an aqueduct to feed a monumental wall fountain (nymphaeum) that cooled the dining rooms and created ambience.\u00a0 At the centre of the complex was a huge man-made lake the size of five football fields (where the colosseum is today).\u00a0 Two main roads led through the complex which allowed the people to see and partake in the splendour.<br \/>\nTo top it all off he went a step too far by erecting a huge bronze statue of himself in the gardens, inspired by the Colossus of Rhodes.\u00a0 The <b>Colossus of Nero (BLOG COLOSSUS)<\/b> 120-foot-high (30m) by Zenodorus depicted the sun God Sol with Nero\u2019s face.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6\" id=\"removeLeftMonPad\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner vc_custom_1602986380261\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div  class=\"wpb_single_image wpb_content_element vc_align_left   manual_img_wd\">\n\t\t\n\t\t<figure class=\"wpb_wrapper vc_figure\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"vc_single_image-wrapper   vc_box_border_grey\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"295\" height=\"171\" src=\"https:\/\/colosseum.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/NEROS-PALACE.jpg\" class=\"vc_single_image-img attachment-full\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n\t\t<\/figure>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The statue and his public performances were seen as embarrassing, he ignored the elite and the senate which would lead to his demise.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rome&#8217;s first dynasty died with Nero in 68 AD. Shortly after the <\/span><b>Flavian Dynasty (COL\/FLAVTAB)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> came to power; Nero\u2019s successors had to go one better, first, by condemning his memory and secondly, by building something even more magnificent, more popular than the Golden House \u2013 an <\/span><b>amphitheatre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. a good example is the <\/span><b>loggia of Raphael<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><b>Vatican<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the decoration of <\/span><b>Castel St Angelo.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The parts of the Domus Aurea that can be visited today are those on the Oppian hill (the park next to the colosseum);
