About The Colosseum

The Colosseum is truly the Icon of Rome and should be on the top of your Rome ‘To Do’ list. The grand amphitheater was officially opened in 80 A.D. by Titus, the son of the Emperor Vespasian, with 100 days of games. It held 50,000 spectators who roared loudly as they watched gladiatorial combats, hunts, wild animal fights and larger combats such as mock naval engagements, all of which were put on at great expense.

Listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, surviving earthquakes and stone thieves, the Colosseum still stands proudly hosting around 4 million visitors per year. Follow in the footsteps of the gladiators as you walk the ancient corridors, visit the underground chambers, stand on the arena floor and imagine the roar of the crowd from above.
